Title: How do I check coolant level in generator radiator
Post by: George Stoltz on July 10, 2010, 02:45:40 pm
This morning I checked the oil level in my Kubota.  Next I wanted to check the coolant level.  Other than sticking my finger into the top of the radiator is there a more "scientific" method of checking coolant level for the generator?

George, do you see a coolant overflow container in the generator compartment or the driver's side front compartment?  As in the main engine cooling system, your Kubota should also be outfitted with this overflow container.  It is this container that has the proper fluid lever marking.

Peter,

Compartment 1 on driver side does not contain an overflow bottle.

In the picture below it looks like the overflow bottle is behind the panel.  I will remove panel to check it out soon.

George , your photo is not the drivers side compartment 1.
See below.
It is hidden behind the washer fluid bottle.

George, have you tried just popping the container cap?  It appears to me that with this setup w/o a "visible" coolant level, the container should have a dip stick of some sort.  It would be impractical to have to remove the shroud everytime you need to check the coolant level which should be done once a week or at fuel stops.

O.K. with my two consultants, here is where I am at.

First.  Barry:  Right.  I am aware of that.  The photo I took is of the generator compartment. My compartment 1 only contains the windshield wiper fluid bottle.  No other plastic containers are in that compartment.

Next:  Peter:  I did remove the panel because I wanted to see what is in back of it.  I found the overflow bottle with some sort of "pictograph" created by an Japanese engineer to indicate the correct level.  I was down about 1.5 inches -- so I topped it off. Also, you are correct.  That cap does pop off.  So as soon as I finish this, I am going back outside to make a small wood dipstick that I can slide into the opening to check the level -- now that I have it correctly filled.

Thanks to both of you for your help and suggestions.

George, there is a sight gauge area of metal missing on the side of my quiet box. If younuse a flashlight you can see the level there. Or you can pull the top.
