Title: Best way to cool the coach?
Post by: Kevin on July 11, 2010, 11:24:14 pm
Good Evening All, hope this finds you doing well.  What are your thoughts on the quickest way to cool your coach when starting a trip with the interior and exterior temperature above 90 degrees?  How do you utilize your ceiling fan etc.?

Thanks in advance, take care.

In my garage I turn on all three AC units the day before. If no garage fire up the genny and turn them on leave the fan on high.  You can suck out the hot air with your exhaust fan for a cowpoke mins but if the outside is in the 90s just turn them on and wait.

The air ducts running front to back are common for both front and back A/C's.
When Temperatures are extreme, I turn both A/C's on.
I close the B/R ducts and the pocket door between L/R & B/R since we are not using the B/R during the day.
That forces the B/D air up to the front living area.
That has made a dramatic difference in the cooling the front of the coach.
Before go to bed I will open the B/R ducts.

If I want to run the A/C at night.
Because it is noisy, I will just turn on the L/R A/C and close some of the vents in front forcing the air to the B/R.

Hi Kevin, I know that your coach does not have ducted air...  I have the same coach as you do. I run the gen-set and power up both roof mounted a/c units. You may also turn on both the kitchen and bath exhaust fans to pull out the over heated air, but when you do that be sure to open a window to supply make-up air or you will be drawing a slight vacuum on the interior of your coach.. as soon as the superheated air is remove from the coach turn off the exhaust fans and close the window and allow the a/c's to cool the interior of your coach. Keeping sunlight from the interior of your coach will help keep it cool. I use a reflective aluminized  shield across the windshield to keep radiant heat out of my coach..

Note to Barry:  Thanks for the tip.  I tried it tonight and it works like a charm.  I didn't realize that I could use the rear A/C to cool the front which gets so much hotter.  Thanks!!
