Title: Trouble with Inverter
Post by: Jim Knecht on July 13, 2010, 08:54:00 am
I'm having a problem with my inverter.  It seems to be constantly running even when connected to shore power. Is this normal?  Is there a problem with my Transfer Switch?  The only way that I can turn the inverter off is to throw the circuit breaker..  I could use any insight to this problem.

Hi Jim, :) The inverter is also the battery charger for your house batteries and it supplies 12 volt power to the 12 volt lights  that are within you coach while on shore power. So, yes it is normal for it to run. It also has a cooling fan to help keep the inverter cool make sure not to block the circular grill on the side of your inverter. Mine is mounted behind the step on an older mid door coach.

I have a 1996 U320 with a Freedom 25 inverter/converter controlled by a Link 1000 or Link 2000. The Link is a control panel which is beside the pantry in my U320. If the on/off switch on the front of the Link is turned "off" the Freedom 25 will do nothing. If the on/off switch on the front of the Link is turned "on" and AC power is being supplied to the Freedom 25, it will work in converter (battery charger mode) and begin charging your batteries (dip switches on back of Link unit set charge modes).  If the on/off switch on the front of the Link is turned "on" and AC power is NOT being supplied to the Freedom 25, it will work in inverter mode, supplying 120 AC to the autoselect switch under the bed in my unit. After a short delay of about one minute the Autoswitch will connect the inverter 120AC to the Subpanel under the bed on my unit. The key to understanding what your Freedom 25 is doing is to look at the dip switches on the back of the link while reading the Freedom 25 manual, and understanding that the Freedom 25 is really two units in one.

The setup in our 1997 U295 is similar to Wyatt's. We have the Freedom 25/Link 2000. Our panel has On/Off for Charge, and On/Off for Inverter. The functions with both switches "On" are as he describes. I leave Charge "On" all the time. I usually leave Inverter "On" when we are using the coach, and "Off" when it is on shore power in a state of storage.
