I had it running this afternoon with the control panel cover open in the engine compartment This is a Powertech/Kubota. It suddenly quit. Full disclosure, I was working on the hour meter, I can't swear that I didn't short out the wires coming into it, they are 12 volt. Anyway, it will run while the start switch is pushed, quits immediately when I let up on the starter. It is getting fuel. I'm suspecting it has something to do with the shut off system, which I assume is a compression release valve. Any ideas?
Gayland,
With the cover open, did you have the breakers open? If the breakers are open, you are not sending power to the coach or more importantly, to the cooling fan for the gen. It will cut off due to over temp.
Low oil is another reason.
There are more but these two come to mind first in that order since it shut down while running.
Gayland,
Here is a troubleshooting flowchart that may help isolate it.

Thanks, but where is this PMCD code shown?
What year is your coach?
1996 U270
Gayland,
The chart is a generic flowchart to assist in giving you some place to start.
You don't have the PMCD module so disregard that part.
Dave:
Where can I download the manual for the PowerTech 8.0KW generator as used in mid 90's coaches. Mine does not have an enclosure.

We have the Kubota/Powertech 10KW generator in our coach. The control circuits may be the same; I've scanned the electrical diagrams and have attached. Perhaps this can help.
