Title: Pleated Windshield shades 2001 U320
Post by: Fiddler on August 02, 2010, 01:39:12 pm
One of the takeup reels attached to my PS windshield shades continues to bind.  I've disassembled rewound and reassembled several times but the problem persists.  Would look forward to suggestions to resolve this problem.  I'm open to purchasing a complete new shade assy but can't find the manufacturer tag.

Have you tried to restring them rather than purchase new?

Fiddler,

The OEM supplier of the windshield shade is QFD Accessories Inc. Eclipse Sunshade 1-800-530-8484.
Just in case you may want to touch base with them.

Thx Barry; I have successfully restrung the side window shades a few times in the past ;  however the windshield units operate differently by auto-winding monofilament into spring loaded reels upon the retracting operation.  When attempting to pull them to the closed position, one of the reels hangs up the monofilament and prevents closure all the way.  I'll dissasemble the reel and carefully rewind the monofilament but it'll only let me open and close a couple of times when the windings slip off the reel and it hangs up again.

Thx Tom:  I contacted Eclipse Sunshades and they are sending me 2 replacement reels at no charge.

That's a great deal!  We'd replaced several of our reels at somewhere around $16 apiece over the years and one of the shades itself at quite a bit more than that.

Finally, the adhesive holding the velcro on the windshield began to fail.  I wonder why....

The selected media item is not currently available.

We replaced the front with MCD shades in March 2009 (after a bit of cabinet work on Steve's part).

Highly recommended if you get tired of the accordian-style (or have a dog named Bentley).

Tim, I solved the problem with the replacement electric roll up/down installed b y MOT.  Love them so much, I replaced the roll up over the entrance door with the electric.  Nice early am when north bound, can kill the sum from driver chair. ;D

We too have the MCD shades in our coach and a beautiful English bull dog named Bentley.  LOL.

Michelle,

How much damage has your cat done to the new shades so far?  Or do you just never close them more than she'd like?

Brett,

That's a cocker spaniel, not a cat  :o

All Bentley's done is get drool on the blinds.  He still slips under them.  I'll have to post a pic once I get it off the camera.

Michelle,

Please give my apology to Bentley.  He must be upset with me.

Michelle. I had  trouble with the velcro on my windshield. Heat finally got to he adhesive. Try "Coil-n-Wrap". It holds in an temp. you can get hooks, loops, or both. I have had it on last 2 coaches and it never quits. Just "Google" coil-n-wrap.
