Title: Posts on the old forum
Post by: Raymond Jordan on September 27, 2010, 11:03:41 pm
Hi Steve, Michelle, and Moderators,
If a question is asked on the old forum, do the moderators ask, or answer, the questions here on the Fore Forums?

If it is asked on the yahoo forum, it will not show up on Foreforum to be able to answer.
Only if someone is still watching the yahoo forum , would it be answered by that person.
But there is very little coming thru yahoo anymore since it has been migrated to here.
Better chance of getting an answer posting it here where most of the members are.

Raymond,

The simple answer is "no".

The Yahoo group is/was supposed to completely migrate over here after everyone saw how many members preferred the feature set offered on ForeForums.  If there are still questions being asked there and not here, it's either because there are a couple of members there who refuse to join (and haven't even test-driven) ForeForums or because that group is still allowing new members to join and allow new topics to be posted.

The last copying of Yahoo messages for archival purposes was in August, and based on the minimal activity there and the manual work to do the copying, there are no plans for any additional message archiving.

Michelle

Another way of looking at the two forums is this:

If you have something to share with another Foretravel owner, it is best said here where it will be seen by more owners and  will receive more responses.

Hi all,
Someone on the yahoo Foretravel page complains when members respond to a question/problem with the common sense reply of, ask over on the Fore Forums. The suggestion seems to really get them in a tizzy!

There are, unfortunately, a couple of Yahoo members who were/are quite upset about any move off the Yahoo group platform.  I'm going to guess those are the users who take offense at the mention of ForeForums.

We really don't understand it - Steve's made sure (even if it meant writing code for non-existent SMF features) we have all the functionality, including the e-mail capability that some users rely on.  We think we've added some features that make this a better experience for the users (member map, avatars, signatures, having separate boards for general, technical, and friendly get-to-know-you banter).  He's also tried to implement many of your suggestions on how to make this site an even better experience.  And we'd like to think that the volume of activity and the quality of the information shared here is evidence that y'all agree and enjoy this site.

It's a shame we can't get those few folks at least consider this board, but several have told us directly they will not join and from member records we can see some have never visited ForeForums.  It certainly would serve the membership best if all the discussion and information was in one place, particularly those of a technical nature, but we can't (and won't) force anyone to join.

I too was reluctant at first and now, I am sure you can tell, really enjoy Foreforums. I never really participated in forums before.

A great big thanks to you and Steve and everyone who has worked so hard to make this an enjoyable and informative experience.

Few things are more important to me in life than to be able to smile and be happy; especially with a group of similar thinking folks who not only help us get by the technical troubles we all encounter, but also make us laugh out loud from time to time.

I don't belong to any other forums or social networks (I have a Facebook id, but seldom go there to check on things).  It just takes too much time away from other important things in life.  And, I don't really cherish being in front of the lap top for too long.

People who hold grudges are not my favorite type of folk.  People who refuse to move on and like the comfort of the status quo, are not my type of folk.

All that being said, at some point in time one of these folks may want to seek or need the help of this forum, and I know we'll be there for them welcoming them with open arms.  'Cause that's who we are!

Kent:  I for one am glad you are here.

Peter:  Very well said.

It is no secret that I am an ardent supporter of ForeForums.  When Steve first got it up and running, I was dreaming up topics with photos to try and get others to see the value of having text and photos in one location.

At the same time our living full-time in a Foretravel has been improved immeasurably thanks to the new ForeForums.  And this would not be possible without Steve and Michelle Cook.

There are always a few people who do not like to see change and that is unfortunate when the change is clearly for the better.

Hi Michelle,
Thanks for everything you guys do to make this forum such a great place to visit. You, and Steve,  have gone way beyond what is necessary to make ALL welcome here. You made it feel as if we are ALL among friends, and we are.

Michelle,

Just don't worry a second over those that will not join.  Their contribution would be nice and welcome but compared to what we have here with your over the top set up of this forum is minuscular at best.

In the words of one of those folks, Bye, Bye.

I am no techie, but I find this site easy to use and wonderful to navigate.  If there are a few old fogeys who won't give it a try, that is their sad luck.

Let me start with the fact that I am a co-moderator  with Don Hay of the Yahoo forum and one of the co moderators on this one too but only am really helping people migrate now on the yahoo forum. Most of the members are coming over here and the post count was 30 vs over 1000 at one point last month.

There are a few people who do not want to change but there is very little information exchange going on over there. The job that Steve and Michelle have done in setting this up is nothing short of amazing.

In fact here at the Grand vention it is the talk of the gathering and I will be spending tomorrow getting people to sign up who have not migrated and have asked for help. It is the only down day we wil have.

So, use this forum, it is the place for us now. Yahoo will eventually close after a while when everyone who wants to migrate has migrated over.

So we will see a Grandvention update/gouge?

Let's hope for less excitement this time - no throwing people out, forced votes, etc...

That's great news!  Steve and I would be there except for our generator situation, so you get to be the ForeForum ambassador in our stead.  Hope to see lots of new members and map pins as a result!

Yes, I plan on it as soon as they have the last ask FT meeting tomorrow.

Foreforums and beamalarm.com are great resources for FT owners.  This topic and others, Numbers and so on, had me just now go through all 37 pages of the members list.

I think I found where we were carried over from the yahoo group from activity years ago.  (Under Lewis And Carolyn Anderson in 2003.)  We dropped any Foretravel concerns while building a house and creating a home.  Only recently have I begun to give attention to the motorhome again and joined this forum under the name Lewis Anderson.

Do you wish to clean up the list and remove the old entry?

Andy,

Please don't delete anything - Steve will merge your old info into your new sign-in and you'll get credit for your join date and old post history.

Hi All

You may recall it was little more than a half year ago that I suggested we consider alternatives to the YAHOO Group.  In my wildest imagination I would not have thought an alternative this broad and this flexible could have been developed in such a short time.  My hat is off to Steve & Michelle.

This now is the focal point for all information regarding Foretravel motorhomes.  I urge any members of of the old YAHOO Group that have not registered in ForeForums to do so.  I would expect the old YAHOO Group to stop receiving posts by the end of the year.

Again, thanx to Steve & Michelle as well as all the folks from YAHOO Groups that have made this a success.

(Also posted on YAHOO Groups).

Regards to all,
John Lang

Hey John,

Good to hear from you.  If you can't convince the remaining few at Yahoo to switch over, no one can.

Hi Michelle,
Thanks for everything you guys do to make this forum such a great place to visit. You, and Steve,  have gone way beyond what is necessary to make ALL welcome here. You made it feel as if we are ALL among friends, and we are.

I have not accessed the Yahoo group, so I don't have any perspective concerning it at all.  But this forum is GREAT!!  So far, the people here have helped me greatly.  For some time, I had no idea who was the driving force(s) for this forum. So I want to thank anyone associated with it in any manner as well as those members here who freely offer their knowledge and experience to us Newbies.  I have experienced and continue to experience this type of help and support on another similar forum and the benefit is immeasurable.

So thank you very much to everyone that helps make this forum so beneficial and successful.
