Thx to Peter Martin on how to post this.
The bottom entry step has a soft feel to it and I suspect water damage to be the cause. Some time ago, FT corrected a water intrusion situation at the entryway that resulted in the bottom step pooling water after a rainfall. Has anyone any experience or guidance on replacing this bottom step?
Fiddler,
Do you have a step configuration like mine in the picture? Or is it another configuration?
I had the problem on my 1999 U-270 and MOT replaced wood under step. Now my 2000 has the same issue - it will be fixed this month at MOT, but I am thinking of using marine "starboard" rather than 3/4 treated plywood that is used by factory
I had a problem with the bottom step inside the door, not the outside air operated step. Carefully removed the vinyl step cover and replaced the affected area with marine treated plywood reinforced and sealed from below. The trick is to remove the box below the step that houses the air step and components. It will be good for another ten years if not more...
I would take a look at http://www.trex.com/ (http://www.trex.com/) , Trex decking material! Much better than marine plywood!
Starboard is plastic/synthetic like trex - but comes in various thicknesses
