Title: 1994 U300 - Rocker Switch Lighting
Post by: Kevin on December 21, 2010, 09:14:01 am
I have a 94 U300....the rocker switch panel to the left of the main instrument panel..........the panel that has the boost, icc, docking lights, fan, retarder, fog lights switch etc.

When a switch is turned on there is a red light on the switch....my question is at one point for a few seconds after first buying the coach, the actual rocker switch descriptors under each rocker switch, i.e boost, were lit, if I remember in blue.  Is that correct, and if so, does anyone know how to fix, hate having to turn on the overhead light to identify a switch in the dark.

Thanks in advance.

Safe travels this Holiday Season!

There are small bulbs you can replace,
Rocker Switch Bulb Replacement (http://www.beamalarm.com/Documents/rocker_switch_bulb_replacement.html)

Kind of a related question...On my 97 U270 there is a rocker switch on the left side of the dash for the "Heated Mirror" selection for the Ramco Mirrors.  Is this switch supposed to light when "ON"?  Mine never has and since I never have had the need to melt ice from the mirrors, I don't know if they work...too lazy to test with a meter at this point.

Thanks Barry..........

Referring to the description of each rocker switch being illuminated, letters below the switch i.e. boost,  not the red light that is illuminated when the rocker switch is in the "on" position.

Any thoughts?

The light comes on when you put the rocker switch to the "ON" position.
I don't think it will tell you if the heaters are actually working.  :(

There is no light that illuminates the description except when the switch is turned "ON".
Something I have wished for many times :(

Kevin,

My 1995 U-300SE has those blue lights (when the the switch is off) too. I have not looked at them too closely so I cannot advise on repair. I did find that there is about 2.5 VDC feeding the Jake brake switch light all the time.

I have light blue lighting of the rocker switch descriptors on my 93, U300 when the parking light or headlight switch is activated. I don't know where it would be but if none of your blue lights are working, there is probably a fuse or electrical connector that is not making contact.

Just replaced 10 bulbs Napa Auto Wagner #17037 bulbs fit, Foretravel parts dept told me the number. Most all the switches are lite up when ignition is turned on, but when the switch is pushed the bulb goes into deeper in  the cavity of the switch and it gets brighter, Other switches like Jake ON/Off and Jake Hi/Lo only come on when depressed.

Good to know..........I have not gone crazy, thought they were blue at one point.  I would love to know how to diagnose, have no idea where to start.  May wiggle a few wires back there and see what happens.

Thanks again.

Thats the same bulb in my switches but I get no light when ignition is on, only when turned ON.
They must be different switches.

Barry, thats right. Mine are only on when the light switch is activated, not when the ignition is turned on.

Guess it was a different thread, but was thinking of the lack of light on the dash board.  Was doing a search for something that would light up the dash board switch area at night.  Something along the lines of the old military blackout lighting.  And all the sudden it hit me like a brick.  I had purchased a cigarette lighter housing at a marina to power my CPac breathing machine in the bedroom.  This Cigarette lighter has a light built in to it for illuminating the dash board area.  Now I will have to see if there is room to put one on the dash.  That would work well, plus you can turn the light on and off.
