Title: Dynagen Controller ES52
Post by: Gary Bouland (RIP) on December 21, 2010, 01:42:02 pm
I needed a Dynagen ES52 controller for the PT10 Generator that I am working on.  FT wanted 400+ for it a year ago.
On ebay I found a lot of 10 for 249 bucks

shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p4012.m570.l1313&_nkw=dynagen+es52&_sacat=See-All-Categories

I also found one on Ebay for a buy it now for 79 bucks.
I bought one for 79 bucks.
I talked with the seller and he tells me he has 30 of them left that he acquired when a competitor moved out of Rock Hill, SC.
If any one needs one of these controllers ( they fit all autostart PT generators as far as I can Tell ) now would be the time to get one.

Hi Gary, Happiness is getting getting a new ES-52 ain't it  :))
That is a great price considering they cost $179.00 + UPS.  I only buy from the factory as we do not need the left over maybe they work models, I am sure they are good, I just can not take that chance in our business.
Good luck.
Merry Christmas

What if you don't have an auto start. What other components are required to make a PT10 Autostart?

If you don't have gen autostart you can easily add a Magnum Energy ME-AGS-S autostart ( ME-AGS-S Automatic Generator Start Controller (Standalone Version) (http://magnumenergy.com/AGS-S.htm) ).

The ES52 provides automatic start/stop and protection control for all types of engine-driven equipment. Simplicity of use, safety, features, versatility and over-all quality are paramount, providing the most cost-effective and reliable solution available. Ours came to be one of the smallest controllers available, with the best value per dollar-cost, backed by a 3 year warranty.

The ES52 maintains backward compatibility to the extent that it can replace similar products without substantial rewiring. Functionally, however, it is loaded with unique features:

• "No speed signal" detection: Should the frequency of the speed sensing signal go to zero while the engine is running, or fail to appear during cranking, a No Speed Failure is asserted, and specifically indicated. NOTE: Speed signal detection during cranking can be disabled via an on board jumper. In some cases when using generator mains as speed signal source it is require to disable this shutdown (when residual is very low).
• Differential speed sensing inputs (for twisted-pair connection): Very effective interference prevention by means of noise cancellation.
• Excellent EMI handling: Software detection of, and recovery from, noise corruption.
• REPLACEABLE RELAYS; Replaceable relays provided within on board sockets. Relays Rated 20 Amps at 30 VDC
• REPLACEABLE FUSE; On board replaceable 20A fuse, mini-fuse (standard automotive type).
• Reversed supply protection; No requirement for series diode on supply.
• 3.3V to 30V, -40ºc. to +85ºc. operation: Works anywhere, anytime.
• Zero Speed Restart™: Prevents starter pinion wear by ensuring that no engagement of the starter is possible unless the speed is zero.
• Oil Bypass Failure: Waits 15 seconds from start for 1-3 crank tries, and 20 seconds for more than 3 crank tries, before enabling Low Oil pressure monitoring. Requires no user setting.
• Four Timer Functions : Glow Plug, Smart Choke™, Air-Gate and Slow.
• Rest-Time indication: Provides feedback between crank attempts.
• WARMUP: Turns an output on, which can control a load device. Warmup timer output is provided on all ES52 units via terminal 19. Warmup timer is a fixed 2 minutes.
• SMALL SIZE; 3.302" x 3.342" x 1.842" 0.67lbs

I have wondered the same thing.  Also, we have a Power Tech IDL8000 genset.  Is this controller for our genset?

Thank you.

AS FAR AS I KNOW, the ES52 is compatible with all PT8 and PT10 3 Cylinder Isuzu and probably others that have AUTOSTART, It is not compatible with my 4 cylinder Kubota That does not have autostart.

Morris, I have a 99 U270 with an IDL8000. I just replaced the ES52 Auto start Controller in mine. I am assuming that yours may have the same thing. If you look at the front control on the generator, and it has a vertical row of led lights on it, that is the ES52. It usually has a sticker I think that labels what the lights indicate. It should say ES52 on the sticker.

Thanks Barry, I could not figure out what it was suppose to control.

Mark,  Thank you very much.  I was wondering how I can determine if it has this type controller now.  When I am at the coach next time, I will check for this to see if it has this type controller.

Thank you very much.

Just a hint, the ES-52 works with or without autostart.  We have installed these on all sorts of engines/generators, large and small, they work great, just keep a CLEAR head when you are trying to guess what is what, they are very simple, so do not make it complicated.
They work great with the auto glow plug timer setup without holding many buttons.
It is not the auto start device.
Cheers :))
