Title: Ribbed Rubber Mat in Utility Bay -- Where Would I Buy a Replacement?
Post by: George Stoltz on December 27, 2010, 07:44:21 pm
Once we get settled in the USACOE Salt Springs Recreation Area near Ocala, FL in early January,  I will be dismantling our utility bay in order to access and replace the dump valves.  At the same time I would like to replace the black ribbed rubber mat in that bay, but I do not know where to buy it or what to use to adhere it in place.  Where would you look?

I promise to take photos as a hot-to-do-it process.  Right now I'm thinking that Advil and Ben-Gay will be two useful ingredients.

This is a classic case of hijacking a thread.  I need information on finding a ribbed rubber mat material.  While it is interesting to read about third sewer valves, that is not what I need help with.

Also,  I now have the issue of trying to remove the wall that is directly in back of the third valve which, according to Kent Spears, requires a special cutting tool.  So, please stay on topic, don't hijack my thread and keep good ideas coming.

Thank you

George,
What additional information do you need about the mat you are looking for below?

I split the thread.
Sometimes a topic veers off because it is relevant to what you are doing.

George, Just Google ribbed rubber floor runners, I found them at Amazon, if all else fails call Factory.

 Google is your friend.

Sorry George, Barry's lead is a good one. Roppe can connect you with local contractors that might have some scrap around. You can also check with RCA Rubber in Akron, OH. RCA has a transit division that has this type of product. I worked with RCA and Roppe/Flexco for years. They may not be too anxious to spend time on such a small project. RCA specialized in rubber flooring and Flexco in vinyl and rubber matting. You can also contact any local utility truck bed installer to see if they have any ribbed rubber matting. Vinyl cove base is available at Lowes or Home Depot. I am not sure what they have in sheet goods.

Barry,

I understand about topics veering off course with something relevant, but often that is not the case.  I felt the time was right to put up a reminder about staying on topic. I was not looking for information on third valves.  As to needing more information about mats, I like to have more than one source and in the case of Bill Willett's contribution, he hit the nail on the head with his suggestion to use Google.  Google is my friend.

You are correct to stay on topic, but in this case your response below may have indicated you were looking for more answers on this newly developed issue since your original question was answered and not knowing you wanted a second source.

Kent,
Oh crap.  I knew it would not be easy, but I did not think about the new third valve being in the way, but you are so correct. Do you have any idea what the cutting tool is that the factory used.

I hope someone has some suggestions.

Thanks for the heads up.  I might have to cut off the new valve, and splice in a new section of sewer pipe after the repair.  Aarrggghhhhhhh!

If or when a permanently installed sewer valve fails, what will you do with the twist off valve when you need to close the bay door?

Right you are, Barry.  That's why I admitted that I too get off topic.

I used a oiece of vinyl sheet goods and wrapped it up as shown the corners are merely pinched together and glued. The upper edge is clamped by the trim piece, the edge around the hose/cable cutout is glued down with some white non silicone caulking.

George,
I don't know if this is exactly the same but it sure looks like it:
