Title: Fridge cooling fans
Post by: Bill Willett on December 29, 2010, 06:26:52 pm
I would like to know if anyone has added fans under the roof vent for the fridge and did it help with the cooling.
 Thanks Bill Willett

I did installed one  (6 inches computer fan) in SOB. Had a Norcold. It really did help  to cool it. Tried in my first Foretravel 1988  with a Dometic ref. It did not help .

I did install 2 fans above the cooling coils with a button thermostat to turn it ON & Off and it worked fine & helped with the cooling on extremely hot days.
The button thermostat stopped working after awhile & I bypassed it and put the fans on a rocker switch and left it on.
But I found that if the temp behind the refer is not that hot the fans being ON were not helping but in fact made it warmer.
Thats why the button thermostat is there to shut the fans off when not needed.

Bill,

Yes, two years ago I put two muffin fans inside the refrigerator roof vent . But, I don't know how effective it has been. I suspect placing them directly on the coils might be more efficient. In hot weather the more convection the better.
