We want to leave early in the morning but temperatures are predicted to go to minus digits. Can I turn on the block heater late the nite before and leave it on until we disconnect in the AM without any problems?
What engine do you have? I found an aftermarket block heater for Cat that says you can leave it on overnight.
Absolutely! That's what it is for and if it is cold enough to need it, it is probably cold enough to take overnight to warm up oil.
Unless it's 100 degrees out I always use the block heater.
best, paul
Block Heater, In the block type, 120 Volt, 1500 Watt, 12.5 Amp, can stay on for much longer than over night. Relax and enjoy.
Thanks for the replies. By the way it is the old '89 Detroit diesel
I've left them plugged up for days on diesel trucks back in the 80's and 90's. I never saw or knew of any reasons not to. I don't have one on the 3208 cat in my coach. I left one plugged up in Minneapolis for 9 days while I flew home to Ark for Christmas. Got down to 75 below wind chill and 40 below out right while I was gone. Well below zero when I returned and the cummins started. She rocked and bucked and blew smoke rings for a long while but I just walked off from her and let her smooth out. That was on a 85 model 350 cummins.
I have an 8v92 year 88 and like all the rest I leave it on all the time when I have the need . fwiw we leave our trucks pluggedin for weeks here in Montana
