Title: Ignition Switch
Post by: Rick Zika on January 10, 2011, 11:18:53 am
Morning All
My question is,what tool or gadget will tighten the chrome ring that holds the ignition switch. I installed a new switch last year and it keeps working loose. Thanks

I use a cable tie to keep the ignition switch from "rolling".  When it starts to move again, I just replace it with a new cable tie.

Check with a Chevrolet dealer or else at a knowledgeable parts house and get the special tool that the mechanics use for installation.

Hi Rick,

When I tightened my ignition switch, I simply held the chromed front ring with a screwdriver blade in one of the slots (just enough to stabilize it) and  turned the switch from the rear to tighten it.  It takes a bit of trial and error to end up with the key slot vertical. It hasn't turned since.

You may be able to get a Chevrolet Ignition switch spanner wrench from an auto parts store or maybe even rent it.
