Q: Why should I use Cummins Filtration's FS1000?
A: The FS1000 is recommended for all Cummins CELECTâ„¢ engines manufactured after December 1995. These new engines require higher efficiency filtration than standard type filtration. 
   
Q: What is the efficiency of the FS1000?
A: The FS1000 is rated at 10 micron absolute. 
   
Q: What is the efficiency of the FS1212?
A: The FS1212 is rated at 25 micron absolute.

Bob,

Here is your chance for a Newbie to teach an old dog a new trick. Which filter is better?  I have no idea what 10 micron or 25 micron absolute means.

Hi George
The most important rating is the absolute rating, the smallest particle the filter will catch 98.7% of the time.  With this in mind, the 10 micron filter will remove smaller particles than a 25 micron filter.  In my engine I run the FS1000 filter because the end result is a cleaner fuel to the injectors.

One other view point, the FS1000 is much larger, meaning it can handle a lot more trash/dirt than the smaller filter/s.
In real life, I have never found any trash in the FS1000, and very very little in the Racor 100100 filter system.
This is most likely due to only buying fuel from high volume truck stops and not the ma & pa type local stops.
Also why I use the FL9000 Lube Filter instead of the FL9009 Filter, as is quoted somewhere "Size matters".
Good filters make for cheap insurance. :)
