Title: Desert Glow
Post by: aspenpilot on January 30, 2011, 08:48:23 pm
Thanks to new found friend I met at Quartzsite, I decided (convinced) to take the step..I mean plunge..and convert my coach to LED's.  On day one I purchased four T8's (18" fluorescent) from Star Lights Inc.  www.starlightsinc.com (http://www.starlightsinc.com)  After installing the new T8's, I was hooked.  The next day, it was back to the "Tent" to purchase some more.  When I left the booth, my bank account was definitely lighter, but I had my treasure.  I replaced all of the T8's, all of the 1076's in the wall lamps, and the two tiny G4's.  On Saturday evening I turned on all of the lights and opened the curtains.  The glow that emanated from the coach, which could be seen for miles, necessitated the use of sunglasses.  :P

Totals:
T8: 16
1076: 8
G4: 2

Brian,
One of these days when I grow up, my wish is to be able to upgrade to LED's and save all that battery power for better uses and longer live.

As you are beginning to find out, there are no limits to how you'll be wanting to make that new baby look and work better.  And yes, the wallet keeps getting lighter & lighter with every wish that becomes a reality...but you're hooked!    8)

What was the total cost of the conversion that was completed?

Hi Jon,

The costs were as follows.  Please keep in mind that I was given one T8 and one 1076 for free because I was a volume buyer.  Although the cost was high, I prefer to have has much light as possible.  Since turning 45 last year, I've noticed that I need to have more light than I did when I was younger.  I forgot to mention in my original post that I also replace the three "Hollywood" lights over the bathroom sink.

T8's:  $690
1076's: $210
G4's: $50
Hollywood: $75

I saw Brian's coach after he replaced the T8's.  It was wonderful, well lit and very pleasant.  I was also very impressed, and envious, with the lighting configuration in his 1999 non-slide compared to my 2000 single slide.  I have just 2 T8 fixtures forward and something else, TBD, in the galley.  I bought a pair of T8's from Brian's source and will see how they work for me.  Thanks, Brian.

Howdy Brian,
Great meeting up with you!! Your coach did put off a wonderful "glow"  after the LED upgrade!!!  I too, replaced some of my 1076s and they have made a great improvement.  The T8s have to wait until later, but I will use exactly the same product.
Thanks for the seminar on replacing the leveling vents!!
Talk to ya later, Dave Abel
