Title: Verizon Mobile Broadband Access changes
Post by: Jon H on February 27, 2011, 08:42:39 pm
According the the Yahoo "internet by cellphone" newsgroup Verizon has apparently eliminated the 5G - $49.99 plan that allowed you to tether your data capable cellphone to your laptop / wireless router. I'm currently looking at alternate options as the new Verizon plan has a 2G limit without additional charges. Has anyone else found anything better with any of the newer smartphones ?

Jon,

We ran into the same thing.

There is some discussion of these Fire Ring topics

The Escapees discussion board also has some useful info Escapees Discussion Forum -> Internet Access on the Road (http://www.rvnetwork.com/index.php?showforum=33)

Steve and I are planning to try PDAnet or Wireless Tether for Root with our Android phones.  If that isn't satisfactory we'll likely bite the bullet and sign up with Millenicom for their 20G plan (which uses the Verizon network).

PDAnet works like a charm here. Often better than my Verizon modem plan.
