Title: If you love horsepower, tire smoke and the need for speed, head to Goliad
Post by: Chuck Pearson on March 06, 2011, 07:27:47 pm
The Texas Mile.  This is a premiere event for the performance enthusiast.  It's becoming very popular these days, but it's basically a run what you brung, no holds barred event.  Expect to see everything from jet turbine bikes, multiple turboed Lambroghinis, scratch built rods and some strong, strong street rods.  I've been going for years, entry is 10-20 bucks as I remember, get there early, park along the line and watch it happen.  Bring your camera and long lens.

There's no hookups, don't bother to ask. You will need to boondock. This event caters to the performance enthusiast.  You can get very close to the starting line.  It breaks my heart to tell you that I wont be there, will be in Alaska helping my son get his new boat sorted out.  But if you like this type stuff, this is a must attend event, in Texas style, it's a free form free for all.  No pit passes or any of that other b.s., this is a down and dirty no holds barred performance event.  You are free to walk the line and talk to anyone.  Be there, you won't be sorry....not many events like this anymore.

Someone better applaud me on this one, Chuck

I used to do Touch-&-Goes at Goliad field in a TF9J while in advance jet pilot training in the Navy in the early 70s.  I don't thinik I could compete with these guys in a TF9J.  We needed almost all of 8000 feet (1-1/2 miles) just to reach takeoff speed in mid summer heat. :-[  However once in the air we could approach super sonic in a steep dive.  :))
