Title: Water Heater Question..............
Post by: Kevin on March 07, 2011, 10:02:37 pm
Good evening!  We have a propane water heater in our 94 U300...........most of our trips are long weekends, week trips etc. only really use the hot water for showers. Do ya'll leave your water heaters on all the time or just turn on prior to using hot water.

In the past, we have just turned on in the evening 20 - 30 minutes prior to showers and then off.  What say you?

Thanks in advance and have a great day!

Kevin,
We also have the (6 gallon) propane water heater in our '92 U-280. We turn it on when we arrive at our destination for the night and leave it on until we leave the next morning. While traveling, the engine heat-exchanger will keep the water hot. If we stay in one place for several days (or weeks) the water heater is left on continuously. It does cycle via the thermostat. Never had an issue.

I have the 10 gal electric/propane/motoraid unit.  If there is good electrical service, I leave the electric heater on 100% of the time.  Otherwise we use propane only when needed before use.

When I had my U 270 I would turn on the propane if it was cold out at night. By that I mean freezing. If I was plugged in I would turn on the electric. If it was not that cold out I would turn on the water heater when I got up and after walking the pups the water would be hot.  As to driving, I never had to turn it on as the engine heat kept it nice and warm...
