Title: What is this
Post by: prevostart on March 16, 2011, 03:14:10 pm
Haven't looked under the bed much, It has a Temperpetic foam bed,and it's heavy. I striped the bed off and looked under and everything is pretty straight forward, But under that wood panel at the front of the bed where the electric comes in there is 2  Radio Shack converters that plug into 110 Volt, and puts out 12 Volt  500 Mila amps . It changes from the small black wire out of the converter to larger gray covered wires .  I tried to trace the wire but it's to tight to see.  What ever it is it only needs 12 Volt when it's plugged into 110 Volt. Thanks for any input  Art.

One person said she looked under the bed and found A SPARE ENGINE!

Every coach has extra wires that run from  the engine compartment to the front under the dash.    500 Mil amps would be enough  to run an indicator light when the coach was connected to AC power.  So I would look to see if a lamp illuminates in the dash area when the coach is plugged in. Also look to see if any equipment was added to the coach that might want a signal to indicate AC power was present.  Do you have a remote start panel, which starts the gen set when the coach calls for  cooling, this could be setup to keep the gen set from starting if the coach is already plugged in.

Joe:    There isn't a auto gen start, but there is a lot if gauges up front AMPS-VOLT etc, I UN plugged 1 of the converters and didn't see a change, It must be something powered only when plugged in to  110 Volt, I will keep looking, Thanks  Art
I looked again when you said about a light , could led be burned out? Is there 2 led's because when of 30 & 50 AMP is plugged in?
I tested it and the 2 led's is what they power, that is what those converters do, both led's are burned out. I wonder where I can buy those led's local?            Thanks  Art

Try Radio Shack.  If they don't have them ask if they know where a electronic component store might be in your area.  I doubt you'll find anything that looks identical but you should be able to find a functional equivalent.
BTW, those are not LEDs but standard bulb indicator lamps (the "1/2 watt" rating is the givaway).  Buy LED's if you can so you'll minimize having them burn out again.

I would suggest that what ever they power they were put in by a previous owner.  I would be VERY surprised if Foretravel would use anything from Radio Shack.

I know they make the same form factor in an LED because my Toad brake uses the same LED connected to the cars brake lights to illuminate when the cars brakes are on.  I have found them at FRY's electronics.  I know roadmaster also has them.  Polarity is critical, so make sure your plus wire is connected to plus.  Standard bulbs do not care.

Those are LED's.  Plug the coach in and check with a voltmeter, make sure the polarity is correct.  They probably never worked correctly.
