Title: Fixing a SeaLand toilet that was difficult to fill
Post by: George Stoltz on April 01, 2011, 12:14:09 pm
In Nov. of 2009 I replaced our Microphor toilet with a SeaLand traveler.  Recently it had become very difficult to refill the bowl with water.  So I removed the large round cover that hides the foot-operated mechanism.  I found two loose screws.  One had actually backed out of its hole by a good 1/4 inch.  The two screws that were loose are lined up with each other horizontally

What an easy fix.  Just tighten two screws and put the cover back in place.  It was actually harder to get the cover back on than tighten the screws.

Life is good in a Foretravel with a properly functioning toilet.  I think I'll take Cookie Queen out for dinner with the money I saved on that repair.

Great work, George.  Keep this up & you'll be going out to dinner a lot more... ;)

George, hope you put some silicone seal or Shoe Goo on the screws to keep them from backing out again. If they did it once it will probably happen again.

Thanks, Nitehawk. I did not think of that. Shoegoo? Is that the stuff that repairs tennis shoes?

Where do you get it?

Hey Guys, be careful using Shoo Goo on plastic. The last time I used it, this was years ago, it was full of acetone solvent. Acetone can melt plastic, particularly in the gelled format of ShooGoo. Silicone or Locktite might be a better choice.

Also do not use any kind of thread locking, like locktite, compound on or in close proximity to plastic.

Rick, Locktite used to make a releasing thread locker for plastic like Locktite 425,  that did not include an active solvent.

Kent,
'How about a tiny dab of some DAP caulk. In white, of course.

That wouldn't work for my toilet cause its a beautiful Rose Beige but it should work for yours just fine.

I have never had problems with a loose screw however. Please don't ask Peggy or Carol to confirm this claim.
