Title: Splendide Manuals and the occasional relay noise
Post by: Michelle on April 01, 2011, 06:54:47 pm
I came across Splendide's document page which includes service and repair manuals.  Great resource!

Splendide Combo Washer Dryer Technical Education Site (http://www.splendide.com/service/docs.html)

Found it while trying to learn why our 2100XC has a relay that is very sensitive to shoreline power.  For some bizarre reason, we'll hear what sounds like the door lock/unlock chattering when we're at certain locations and we're not even using the unit.  No lights flickering, so it's hard to say what's going on.  Splendide tech support feels it's noise on the incoming power.

Has happened a couple of times in Nac - at MOT and at Xtreme.  We had to flip the circuit breaker for the washer to get it to stop.

Steve,
Those two relays are notorious for being weak or failing.  I had a Splendide on our boat and bought a dozen of those relays.  Had to change them regularly when the fickle machine would burn them up at the slightest drop or spike in voltage.  Even the ones in the coach had to be changed occasionally when campground voltage fluctuated.
Both were machines in the 1996-1998 era.
They are fairly easy to change with a soldering iron.
Maybe they have changed to components now.

Mike,

Interesting.  Did you have the "chattering" issue as well?  The relay hasn't failed, but one can hear the door lock/unlock in a random fashion, rather short interval.  It's only happened at MOT and Xtreme, not at any campground, FOT, at home, or in storage.  Talking with Westland Sales, they felt it was the incoming power, even though the washer was shut off.

It makes me wonder about the one problem I've heard more than once - broken door handles on the 2100XC.  Someone tries to open it and the handle breaks.  Perhaps related to a door relay problem preventing the door from unlocking properly?

Michelle,

That is how I found out that it was the relays on the circuit board in the back.  It would chatter occasionally, and when I tried to troubleshoot it, it would go away.  First one relay, then the other.
When we had good power, volts and freqs, no problem.  But lower the voltage, or get a freq fluctuation, chatter on.  Replacing the relay with the same relays got the same results after awhile.  There seemed to be no substitute because of the pin layout of the relay.
I just changed them whenever the problem redeveloped.  I became very, very familiar with the back of the w/d.  Too friendly for my lifestyle!
