With Spring in the air and the temperatures moderating I thought yesterday would be a great day to start readying the Foretravel.
I decided to treat the beautiful walnut cabinetry with a good oil rub. Many years ago I used to build fine furniture and used a product called WATCO
Danish oil. I found it was still being made and available at the nearby Home Depot. Well, the results just flabbergasted me. The beauty and quality of
the wood just seemed to come alive. In a couple of hours the interior looked practically new. I have attached a picture of the upper bedroom cabinets
showing one side treated and the other not. I am usually just reading the informative posts on our forum and hope others will find this useful.
Bud
Bud,
Very impressive results on the cabinets. Great looking paint job on your coach.
Very nice...I have been thinking I need to do the same. I wondered what would be a good wood treatment product. I remeber a lengthy post on here last year about all the different wood products. I am glad to hear there is something available at Home Depot. Great Job....I am in California and will serve cocktails if you don't mind doing a second coach. ;D
When at FOT in January, I bought a can of Zep Wood Doctor Wood Cleaner and Conditioner. That is a product they sell and recommend. It contains: Paraffin oil, Petroleum spirits, d-Limonene, Isopropanol, Carbon Dioxide. It is labeled: For industrial use only; not for household use or resale.
It has made no difference in the appearance of the wood cabinetry in our coach. However, I expect the results will be much better if I apply it to the wood rather than just keeping the container in a drawer. ::)
When I am not sniffing CorrosionX, I use The Wood Dr. It is my other "Drug of Choice".
JD,
I used to mix linseed oil and turpatine 50:50 and was pleased with the results on our walnut paneling, but Zep's Wood Doctor is even better. A half can will do the whole coach. It's GREAT.
I have not been able to find Zep Wood Dr. out here in Cali. Do you have to order it from FT?? I am sure it too will get added to the collection of other items, waxes and polishes, that I plan on using some day. :))
I bought it over the counter at FOT. The can is labeled "For industrial use only; not for household use or resale". A search via Google showed some listings by industrial supply companies. They were generally in cases of 12 containers. I expect you could buy it via telephone from FOT.
