From another Topic:
Just spoke to Steve Bolling at King, and he did confirm that the dual purpose unit (throttle/cruise) cannot be changed to 3/4 throttle when in cruise only. The mechanical adjustment would not work for just the cruise program, but limit the foot operated throttle as well.
Our 1997 was originally delivered with the King throttle/cruise control. It currently has an air throttle to control the C8.3 engine. The previous owner had FOT install the air throttle after the King throttle failed in California. He flew his personal mechanic to CA on his company's jet plane, then traded "rides." The mechanic got to drive from CA to NAC using a rope to control the throttle. He reported to us that he propped up the bed with a broomstick and ran the rope to the driver's position. To power up the engine, he pulled the rope. Yee, hah!
I think the cruise control is still a King unit, and the throttle is pneumatic. It works well for us. The only glitches were a few instances when the brake light controls were sticky and prevented the cruise control from setting.
Yup. There have been a few reports of the King unit acting up. Donno why that happens. A couple years back Steve @ King looked my unit over and everything seemed to be working fine. This was due to an intermittent power issue I had discussed in the old version of this forum.
Mine works great at 230,000 miles. Hope it never quits...
