150 miles north of savannah on I 95 and I heard bumping noise in rythm with hiway, stopped and found rod on frontend that goes from just under right shock up to top chassis with plate broke into. It looks to me it would prevent twisting. My question is will it be ok to drive it home to Donalsonville Ga. It looks as if it was partially broke a while but now with this 2 ft. rod being loose on one end it is free to make noise on rough hiway. Maybe Brett would chime in as I need info badly. Thanks tommy t. tommytstrat@yahoo.com
Tommy, First no hard brake action, and be gentle with it. If it were me, I would try to nurse it to a truck stop, they usually have a name on a board of guys who can come out and fix most anything, weld it up or what ever to get you home where you can have a proper fix done.
The questions would be, How far to home? Miles / hours
Of course I have to say DO NOT DRIVE IT, but some common sense might fit in.
I once had a broken weld on the rear suspension of my MCI, when I gave it fuel, ithe back end would cross the road to left, found a garage, phone # and met the correct guy on road, who jumped right in and fixed it correctly (Welded it) I was lucky as he was a union pipeline welder (gas) for 25 years and just retired, doing little weld jobs from his pickup truck. He felt embarrassed to charge me $50.00 bux.
You can meet some of the best folks on the road, or the worst. In his case, I knew when he struck the first arc, he was a welder, later I asked how long he was welding. Crazy how things work out.
Tommy,
That is the PANHARD ROD. It limits side to side movement of the coach vs chassis. It is mounted from a plate on the passengers side to the frame rail on the driver's side.
I e-mailed you my phone number-- call me.
