Title: Stove burner flame too high
Post by: Jerry Steele on May 07, 2011, 12:38:27 pm
Can the burner flame height be adjusted on the Gaggeneau two burner stove?  If so , how?  If not what other options do I have short of relacing the stove.  DW is becoming more insistant and I need help.

First off, I do not know the specs for the Gaggeneau Burner, but first thing I would check for the correct gas pressure from the tank regulator. I do not know the proper pressure for a RV, but Normal LP pressure would be 11" WC.
Hope there is someone with a better working knowledge of RV LP gas.

I'm assuming you do not have the operations manual for your cooktop - here is the link to download Gaggenau manuals (however, the website says, "To download the files you need the E-Nr. (WM204140/01). You can find the number on the label inside the appliance..."):

https://portal.bsh-partner.com/portal%28bD1kZSZjPTAwOQ==%29/PORTALFRAME.HTM

I have the Seaward Princess Gourmet 2 Burner stove top (and several gas ranges in homes in the past), but have learned a couple of things from using this particular unit in the coach:

- even with larger pots, to keep the flame at the appropriate height (see attached illustration), I find myself using the smaller burner on occasion for larger pans

- for simmering, I use a diffuser (see attached image) that I purchased from a local cooking store (the detachable handle is only to lift the hot cast iron plate if necessary) - and even then, to keep the flame low and of the appropriate height, I sometimes still need to move to the smaller burner

That being said, before making any adjustments, I guess the first question is how excessive is the flame height - and is it burning a steady blue color (that's the optimal color)?

Hope this helps a bit....

Jerry,
What model Gaggeneau do you have?

Propane at the correct pressure (11" water column) passes through the gas valve and the gas filter (optional) to the thermostat.
Correct input pressure is critical. If the input pressure is not correct, the resulting flame at the other end of the propane system will not be correct.
You will need a manometer to test the pressure.
If you have any doubts about the gas pressure, buying a new LP regulator for your propane tank may be the simplest solution.

The stove is  the ENr-VG223812CD.  Only the flame on the lowest setting on the small burner burns too hot.  Iwas hoping for an adjustment as found on some household stoves.  Me thinks the stove is too damn good.

Don't throw out the stove.  We, too, have the cast iron diffuser and it solves the problem you are having.

Oh my, Jerry, I didn't realize that the link I sent was bad - here's the link, and then one can click on "all manuals available for download."

www.gaggenau.com (http://www.gaggenau.com/US_en/service.do)

I entered your ENr- number (VG223812CD) and got the following message (clearly, their "German roots" are showing ;) with the phrasing of the "unavailable manual" message):  "No user manual was found for the given E-Number. Entering an incomplete E-Number may ease the search. Please accept the possibility that the user manual for the E-Number (appliance) you entered is not yet available for download."

In their instructions for the model number, their example format is:  WM204140/01.  I tried eliminating the "CD" at the end of your model number, but still no manual was available.

Sorry that wasn't more help!

Can someone help me find a diffuser?  I also have a problem with the excessive flame level on my 2 burner ... unless I want to boil water for pasta, I never seem to use anything but the very lowest setting and that is really more of a meduim flame, if you ask me.

Carol,

I found one on Amazon.  Amazon.com: (http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=heat+diffuser&tag=googhydr-20&index=garden&hvadid=3117829487&ref=pd_sl_82o44mm1up_b)

I Googled open gas flame heat diffuser.

Carol,

Have ya'll conformed the correct propane PSI (11"WC).  In many cases, it is less expensive to replace the regulator than to pay to have it tested.

Marshall Gas out of San Marcos Tx  supplies most of the regulators used in RV's.

Note: The vent (quarter sized screen covered part) MUST face down.  So, for vertically mounted regulators, the vent is along the long axis of the regulator.  For horizontally mounted regulators, the vent must be perpendicular to the long axis of the regulator.  The two styles are the same price--under $30.

Carol, as Brett said before you go replacing your stove or buying  defuser's, the prudent thing to do is eather replace your regulator, or have your LP gas system checked for the proper 11"WC pressure, it will also affect the rest of your gas appliances performance if it incorrect.
