Hi:
I took my 1983 foretravel into the local kenworth shop for it's safety inspection this week. The steering box is leaking and all the parts are discontinued. Any suggestions on what I could use as a replacement steering box? Any idea on what it might cost?
James Triana at Foretravel would be my first call.

James Is a valuable resource in this area. If he is not able to help; you may try powersteer.com they have access to many heavy truck components. Also try M&M coach in CA. They are a parts supplier for the Oshkosh chassi
Different breed, for sure, but our previous Trek coach leaked over a quart of steering fluid in a day or two while parked, after a couple months of non-use. It leaked around the shaft seal. I ordered a replacement seal, but it never leaked a drop again, best I could tell, after 10,000 miles of driving in a year. Coach is sold, but I still have the seal somewhere.

PS I zip-tied a rag around it on the first trip, so I could inspect frequently and easily for leaks.
A Bar's stop leak might be worth a try. Not sure if you have oil or steering fluid in the steering gear box. Bar's Leaks Products (http://www.barsproducts.com/barsleaks_products.htm) I think FT has recommended this in some cases.
No, not Bar's, but Lucas Hydraulic Oil Conditioner and Stop Leak. It didn't work for my leaking steering box seal, though.
Thanks for all the suggestions... They found a new steering box in Toronto... First they told me it was $2000.00 but it came in at $500.00.... Now i need to get the seals fixed on the leveling jacks.... ???
That is one cooool looking 83 FT. How about posting some photos and giving a little history on the coach. I love the old ones.
