There are two 40 watt incandescent bulbs on the bottom of our Sharp R-1830 microwave oven that illuminate the burner area of the stove top, when needed.
My spouse likes to use the microwave like a breadbox when it is not being used to microwave some edibles.
At night she likes to use the under-oven light as a shaded night light. The twin 40 watt bulbs generate enough heat (80 watts) to turn the inside of the oven into a crock pot or warming oven. Makes the natural homemade bread turn moldy in short order. Not good.
I am intending on changing the bulbs over to L.E.D.'s if I can do it, which will cure more than one problem. The LED's won't generate heat and they won't take as much power out of my batteries when on inverter service.
I have been unable to determine the actual size of the base of the bulb as both were destroyed while trying to remove them from the socket. Research on the Sharp part number proves to be of no help as far as a description or PRICE as Sharp makes them proprietary. I am hoping someone on the forum KNOWS the base size of these bulbs.
In addition, I have so far been unable to find a 110 volt LED bulb or "conversion base" that might work for this application and hope that someone has already found the LED solution.

Consider running 12V up there, adding a 110V relay to turn on/off 12V for you via the light switch on the microwave... Then use whatever you want for LED bulbs...
Interesting concept.
I am going to be switching the kitchen sink florescent fixture over to LED fairly soon, so 12 volt access would be pretty easy. I shouldn't need much of a relay with LED's, eh? Sure would be easier if I could find 110 volt LED bulbs with an E17 base (I think) and just do a swap out......... Getting the old bulbs out was a real pain.......

I replaced those lights with 7 watt christmas lights (out door type with threads on the base), one yellow and one red.
I found the originals got very hot and were too bright.
