I need to replace coach water pump and want to do so with a new variable speed sensor pump. In my pump bay, there are 2 other devices with the existing pump: a pressure switch (which I can now eliminate) and a black device with wires and a knob on top. Is this the fill valve ? If not, what is it's function?
RS,
If you can post a photo it will make it easier for us to help you. Also, what year is your coach? I just installed a variable speed pump myself.
coach is an '03 U320. Can't easily attach photo right now.
That should be your water fill valve.
If you haven't already purchased a new pump, we are very pleased with the AquaTec 5.3 we used in our '03. Our coach was delivered with that model (albeit older version) pump so it was an easy decision for us.

We have read a lot of reports of the ShurFlo Smart Sensor 5.7 pump failing (often leaking) for the past few years so I would be hesitant to go with that model.

Check out the aquatec 5.3 gpm part no. 5503-1e57 on the Fairbank equip. inc site. $160 reg price, looks like on sale for $129.99 hope this is the same pump refered to. jc
We had our old ('95 original) water pump replaced in March, and had the accumulator tank removed when MOT installed a ShurFlo Smart Sensor pump. 5 weeks later, the pump was leaking badly ... the PUMP, not the connections or anything due to the installation. It was replaced under warranty at Camping World, as we are now hundreds of miles away from MOT. If your accumulator tank is good (if you have one) I would consider keeping it and sticking with a low-tech water pump. OR, going with a high tech pump, perhaps stay away from the ShurFlo. We apparently missed the posts, and did not question the brand when MOT put it in for us.
It looks like a similar model, the one in question is called the "RV" pump on the Aquatec website. You'd have to contact Aquatec and ask; it might just need a couple of parts (filter, fittings) to work in our applications. If it would work without too much extra, that's a great (no, outstanding) price!

Shurflo has a newer water pump model Revolution-4008.
The 4008 has no electronics and handles low flow without rapid cycling with an internal bypass that works very well. Clever simple reliable pump and available from Camping World.

We don't connect our plumbing to a city-water-hose and have been using the 4008 for all of our water pressure needs for over a year and are very satisfied with it. A few RV friends are also using the Revolution-4008 with positive results.

This is a timely topic for me. I had just started doing some research.
We had that 5.7 Shurflo pump in our SOB and replaced it 4 times under warranty and then replace it again with an Aquatec 55-Aquajet-ARV, which worked well but was pretty noisy (it did run for a couple seconds occasionally, apparently due to back flow through the pump; a check valve is available).
I just read a favorable review on the Shurflo 4008 and am glad to see Barry & Cindy have had good service for over a year.
All I want is quiet operation, strong pressure for a shower, and a reasonable service life.
Michelle, can you post a link to the spec sheet for your pump. I have looked through their website and am not sure which one you have.
