We have a Toyota Prius. I know I can't tow it flat. I have towed it on a dolly which I detest. My question this morning. Guys/gals with a U240 what are you towing behind your coach?
Jerry, I do not have the 240 coach, but think light weight, the old VW Beetle comes to mind, only if your hobby is the Beetle. We towed a Ford Escort for years, now a Honda Element or a Ford p/u 5 speed, the p/u is very light 3800 lb.
Holpe you get many responses to this one.
Jerry,
When we had our U240 we towed a Jeep Cherokee and it worked well with a Roadmaster tow bar.
Do you remember what it weighed?

The guides for more than the last decade give weight and what vehicles can be towed 4 wheels down and any limitations.
BTW, we tow a Ford Focus 5 speed. 2560 pounds.

Thanks Brett. I looked at the Ford Focus yesterday. I do like it because it is the size I like. DW wants a Fusion which is heaver and a lot more bucks.
Jerry,
Can't remember the weight of our Jeep. (too much water under the bridge or a case of CRS)
A 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee weighs 4160#. We tow ours with a 1997 U295, Cummins C8.3 325 with Banks Stinger to add a few HP. Engine is adequate, but not a hot rod. 6.8-7.2 mpg at 65 mph +-. YMMV.
We tow a 2002 Subaru Imprezza WRX with our U270. It's AWD, manual (only manual Subarus can be towed), and gets 25-27 mpg in the highway (by itself... Unfortunately doesn't help the mileage of the coach :))) Great car, totally reliable, (even though it's the go-fast version with turbo,) sports car handling, AWD, so goes just about anywhere that doesn't require high ground clearance. Weighs ~3000 lbs.
We are Subaru people also. Drive a 2002 Outback at 3400 # as I recall. Couldn't even tell it was behind our U225 and certainly can't feel it behind our U300. Now has 125,000 miles so it is finally getting broken in. Three of the previous 4 outbacks had over 250,000 miles them when we sold them with no major repairs required. Number 4 was given to son at 183,000 and is still going strong. The Outback has way more interior room and carrying capacity than other mini SUVs like the Saturn View, Hyundai Sante Fe, Ford Escap, Kia Sorento and Jeep Liberty. We get about 28 mpg, highway, and plenty of passing power even with Jeff and Carol aboard.
We like Subarus !!! It's just hard to find them with a manual transmission, but its worth the effort.
I installed the Roadmaster base plate in about 3 hours.
Thanks to all that have already replied to my toad query.
