Well, it is windy again but I am not too worried any longer. On the way out, we hit huge winds in Iowa. It was causing my LR slide awning to open up. I zip tied it close and it stayed that way. I just met a couple from Lufkin TX in a Winnie and they had the slide awning in the back of their pickup. It had pulled loose from the side of the coach. It was windy but not that windy.... I am glad I am in a FT though. It did not prevent the zipdee from opening but a simple plastic strap kept the awning on the coach.
We talked to a guy this morning and his slide awning came out while underway in a high wind. I think it was a "Vacationer" by Holiday Rambler. Don't know the year. It was a Carefree awning.
So John, how did you secure your owning with a wire tie?
I am home finally. Oh it was a great trip and almost 6000 miles in the month. I secured it by loosening two of the nuts on the top of the roof where the awning attaches. I then used a screwdriver to push it underneath. It was sticky but it went under fine. I was loosening the third and fourth bolt back and then when I got the pointed end under I pulled it from the ground and then pushed it thru and snugged it up. Cut it loose when I got to ID and never had a problem the whole way again. I am carrying extra for just this set up for next time. I did see a newell and he had a metal strap that went over top of his and attached to the roof to prevent his from deploying... I am going t look at putting something like that on. The winds were intense. About 60 plus mph head winds. I was going a slow as 35 and it would deploy. I was in a campground in SD and there was a WInne that pulled in. He had his room awning in the back of his pickup.... Not a fun time on I 90 that day.
