Title: vmspc-engine diag. switch
Post by: hotonthetrail on July 16, 2011, 02:01:05 pm
Would the engine diagnosis switch in the back, under the instrument cover beside the abs switch, have any effect on the VMSpc? I am not getting all the readouts even though the last eng. diag. printout indicated that the readings were in the ECM and were printed out at a cummins shop. There are 3 or 4 parameters in question. thanks jc

I'd be very surprised if that switch had any effect on the output.  Out of curiosity what readings are you missing?

Steve, the readings in question that were not responding, there may be others, HP, torque, turbo boost pressure, clvl, these may not be applicable but I may only wish they were. I have a 450 m11 celect plus and there is not a selection in the VMSpc set up for this exact engine. Also when is the engine diag. switch used?  thanks jc

JC, The Torque, HP and Boost readings will not show until your under way.  If the temps, rpm, pressures are reading, it would sound like your on the right track.
Good luck

The HP and Torque readings are calculated values as well .... a good guestimate based on RPM, Load, and probably transmission gear selected ... plus having the right engine selected so it has its performance curve.

I have yet to see any output from the turbo pressure (regular or extended), have not really investigated in to why just yet (wrong PID, communications issue, other).  My clvl also always reads zero, not sure that sensor was installed by FT.  Be interesting to hear what others are seeing on either of those.

When I first got our VMSpc (usb version) I had to change the bit spacing (under advanced parameters under communication) to get the odometers and transmission selection to work.

Also when is the engine diag. switch used?
Its used when the check engine light is on, you press the switch and get the most recent blink code .... similar to what the abs switch next to it does, when the abs light is on you can get the that blink code for which sensor faulted.

On the ISM450 2001 version, it does have the turbo boost from sensor, I had a good look / snoop when they were changing the intake manifold and new wastegated turbo along with the control unit that mounts on the intake manifold when I had my engine updated to the 500 hp & 1550 ft lb.    Big improvement in jump  up and go
Also read intake temps, all actual. Yes HP and Torque are derived numbers from your selection of engine and hp.
