Title: Door steps. Help
Post by: Jim/Sandy Black on July 19, 2011, 10:14:56 am
We have replaced the motor on our steps and they are now working.  Problem is they will not stay out when we are parked with engine off.  They just keep going in and out when door is opened.  We own a 2003 U320.  Minor problem but driving me nuts.  MOT does not know where there is a switch to control steps and we cannot find a switch. Help!!!!!!

If installed, it would likely be a basic black rocker switch by the entry door.  In our '03 it is an unmarked switch right below the triplet of Porch-Door Locks-Entry.  It may not have been standard to install the switch (what Kwikee calls the "power" switch).

Here are some instructions from Barry's site should you need to install one:

You should have a switch somewhere for the door!  May not be marked.  You might have to add one as in Steve's link.

In our 03 (U295) there is the third unmarked rocker switch under the triple rockers that Michelle mentions - BUT, it was installed when FOT replaced the broken Kwikee steps with the Nimbus-style double steps when we bought the coach.

While there doesn't appear to be another unmarked switch that formerly operated the Kwikee steps, it did take me quite a long time to find two switches under the passenger window that operate the electric shade (passenger only) and the air-operated step cover.  These are the same black rocker-style, and they are on the side of the wooden double-cup holder...down low and hard to see.

Good luck with your search!

Below my passenger cup holders I have the step cover switch on front side, then between my seat and the cup holder side I have a turn switch which operates light under steps outside, electrical plugs and a cigarette lighter type which is probably for phone char gee.
Nothing under the 3 on the dash.  ????????  Never seen a coach w/o a switch for the steps. Thank you all for trying to help us.  >:(

Jim/Sandy...  here is the number for Kwikee's Service Line:  800-736-9961.  Perhaps they can assist.

I found it in the on-line owner's manual for Kwikee steps manufactured after January 2002 (which may or may not be applicable to your steps):

Good luck!

Problem is being solved right now.  We drove back to Kissimmee to Camping Connections and they are putting in a switch right now.  He said we have new motor, but he had also put in new brains so it will need a switch.  He also did not realize we were switchless. :D :D
