Our coach didn't come with a ceiling fan in the bedroom and in an effort to make it more comfortable during hot weather, we installed two Hella Turbo fans (Amazon.com: HELLA 003361002 12V Black 2-Speed Turbo Fan: Automotive (http://www.amazon.com/HELLA-003361002-Black-2-Speed-Turbo/dp/B00144D28I/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_1)) which we found on sale at Defender Marine. We have used these fans on boats in the past (where no AC was available) and they worked well.... moved a fair amount of air and were quiet.
As shown below, I mounted them at the end of the storage cabinets and directed them to the bed area. I was able to find 12 volts and a ground line in the base of the cabinet over the head of the bed. The wires to the fans run under the floor of the cabinets. They only draw 0.5amp and I installed a 1 amp fuse on each fan. Switches are part of the fan.
Overall we are quite happy with them. They have made the bedroom less "stuffy" at night and are reasonably quiet.
George, I am looking for a constant 12V, not switched, power source for my A/C thermostat up in the cabinets. I have not found any hot wires in the wall near the bathroom or in the cabinet. Were the wires for your fans hidden somewhere in the cabinet area?
We really like the bedroom fan that came (factory installed) in our coach. It is residential-like and runs on AC.
Works great.
Kent.... see below. Under the floor of this cabinet there are a lot of 12 volt wires. Most are switched and run the lights, but I found a bundle of 5 wires that were non-switched. I didn't check, but I assumed that one of the wires was hot and the other four lead elsewhere in the rear of the coach. So I tapped into these for the fans.
Thanks George!! Our cabinets are different and we have nothing electrical running across the back. I have checked there and the only non-switched wires I know of are to the wall lamps. It looks like I would have to remove all of the shelves and a faux wall to get access and so far I haven't wanted to spend that much time. If all else fails, I guess I may have to go that route but I'm leaning toward using a converter/transformer to do the job.
I like those fans George. Would work well in my coach. I like ceiling fans, but would likely get smacked in the head by a blade. :)
