Well, I serviced my Onan Emerald III (LP) this weekend. I ordered an equivalent WIX air filter to what my Onan repair book stated, Onan PN 140-1891 (Wix 42362 & Napa 2362 Air Filter: FleetFilter Secure Online Store (http://www.fleetfilter.com/filter/wix-air-filters/42362.html)). However, when I opened the air filter case, I discovered Onan PN 140-2379 (Save at RV Partscenter - RV Parts and Supply (http://www.rvpartscenter.com/ProductDetail.asp?PID=23304&SID=28&DID=149&CID=501)). As you can see, the main difference is the small pre-filter foam sock that is around the filter. Has anyone else experienced this? In doing more research, I can't seem to actually find an OEM Onan 140-1891, but I can find an OEM Onan 140-2379. It seems this may have replaced the 140-1891 which makes me wonder if Onan discovered some issue with the 140-1891 and instead started using the 140-2379 w/pre-filter. Anyone know?
The Onan 140-1891 has been replaced by the 140-2379 $11.86
Dave, thanks for the reply! What I'm really trying to figure out is if anyone knows why? I did the change out with the original replacement filter. If there's a problem with using that filter then I'll go ahead and change to the replacement PN.
