I have a question about tire size. I have a 98 u295 40 foot that has 295 75R22.5 tires. I have looked at quite a few other fortravels and they have 275 80R22.5 tires, also this is the size indicated on my id plate by the drivers seat. It would appear that someone put the larger tires on this coach. I have noticed that some other foretravels have the 295 75R22.5 tires. Any reasons for the larger tires? Thanks for any help. Ron
Are your oversize tires on the front? Usually changing size or even staying with the same size but changing brands can cause the tire to rub bottom metal air bag plates when turning the front wheels. Probably the only evidence of rubbing is worn edge of tire tread.
There may not be any other problem with oversize tires
Ron,
The tires are not larger, just different width and height of side wall.
The 275 width has a side wall height 80% of the width. That height of side wall in inches times two plus 22.5 inches produces a tire of about 40.1 or 40.2 or 40.3 inches in diameter.
The 295 width has a side wall height 75% of the width. The diameter is still the same, plus or minus 1 or 2 tenths of an inch.
Now a 295 80 22.5 tire is larger in diameter than a 275 80 22.5 tire.
My 295 75 22.5 tires do not rub the air bag plates ever and cost thousands less than 275 80 22.5 tires.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the info Rudy. My tires do not hit the steel plates or air bags either. So glad to hear an explaination as we are actively looking for a little newer foretravel.
