Title: air dryer
Post by: Gary Bouland (RIP) on August 12, 2011, 04:19:43 pm
Well it finally happened to me.
As I left a fuel stop near the house I lost all air pressure.  Got into a parking Lot before brakes locked and found that air dryer was toast, would not shut off and was dumping all the air.
Coachnet sent a Mobile mechanic and he bypassed the dryer so I could get to a shop.
With this hip giving me a bad time I could not physically do the job myself.
Its in the shop now for new dryer.

Gary,
Real bummer.  :( :(
Which dryer do you have?
Do you know it the decant element failed and contaminated the wet tank? If so it is a PITA to get the system cleaned up.
Hope you get your legs back under you soon. ;D ;D

Mike, This is the Haldex type.  We saw no sign of contamination when we pulled the lines off.  The spitter valve would not seal and it constantly dumped air. Mechanic pulled lines off and connected them together to bypass the dryer so I could get It to a shop. Worst problem he had was lack of line length, he had to cut off several wire ties to get enough length to connect them together.

BTW  Coach Net sent AM/PM 24 hour Road Service out.  ( 1-877-277-2676 ) They told me a 1 1/2 hour wait but mechanic showed up in about 20 minutes.  His truck was well equipped and he knew what he was doing.  I was impressed.

Gary:

That's scary isn't it?  When mine acted up, it sure had me focused... not knowing if and when the brakes would lock up.

Glad all is well.

Gary,

How old were your dryer filters?

Amos, This dryer failure is all my fault.  For several reasons I did not have service done on dryer last year as I should have so filters were three+ years old.  No excuses.
