Title: Window latches
Post by: Kerry on August 14, 2011, 02:50:27 pm
We have the single pane windows in our coach and have been squeaking or rattling while traveling. We have been putting tissue  into the sides to stop the noise.
The latches have 2 screws in them I believe to replace them, question is are their any adjustments to do to get them to stop making noise?, or do I just need to replace them?, can i still get them if replacement needed?
Anybody have experience with them?

Thank you all.

I have the same type windows so I use a  lubricant. It is LPS Greaseless Lubricant #1. It comes in an aerosol can and should be available at any automotive parts store. Works great.

Hey, talkin' about window latches.  I am so big and strong and ugly, that I broke two of the handle frames before in got gentlier and handsome.  Does FT have replacements for my single-pane windows.  Need one red and one black.  Other suggestions?  Andy1

Not sure about the ones for single panes, we got ours for dual pane from FOT.  As noted in the older thread, they only have red and the rivets are extra.  We don't have the tool to install the rivet (or anything with us to drill out the old one) so we glued the broken tab back on for now and will deal with it when we get home.

I just replaced two on my single pane windows. FT does have the black ones, but don't have any more red ones. Could always paint them, I suppose. Had one broken one and one very sticky one. Took less than a minute each to swap them out.

Black & red window latches are the same. Red designates for legal purposes, I guess, escape windows, except all of our windows are exactly the same. We do not have any escape windows so any color can be used. Drill out rivet, attach new handle with a short bolt with a locking nut or use Loctite to keep nut from turning on bolt. Foretravel parts has had replacement handles.

Thank you all for replying...looks like I will be calling FT for replacement ones.

The boss can't stand the squeaking from the latches going down the highway, sounds easy enough to replace.

Hmmm... mine was attached with two Phillips screws. New ones did not come with screws. Very simple fix.

Yes, red is supposed to designate an emergency exit. I guess the big EXIT label under the window isn't enough.  :)

EXIT labels do not mean anything as every window operates the same where only one side slides open. They are misleading because in an emergency the label makes us think that the window with EXIT has special powers. Label can be safely removed.

Cool! Gives the interior a less "industrial" look. Thanks.  :)
