Title: Plastic Lighted "Foretravel" Entrance Handle
Post by: Russell on August 18, 2011, 12:38:31 pm
Easy or difficult replacement job?

Mine broke in two yesterday with just a light touch.  I seem to remember some photos, but haven't been able to locate them.

Any comments appreciated.

Here is a site that sells what looks like a replacement.

Lighted Assist Handles For Motohomes Fifth Wheels Travel Trailers Lighted Grab (http://www.rvandvansurplus.com/assisthandles.asp?Vehicletype=RV#)

Gary's post about his handle:

Barry's site link for wiring diagram:

Hope this helps.

I replaced mine last year.  We were at FT and I found that there are at least two models of this clear plastic handle.  The one they gave me initially would not fit, but the second one was fine with a bit of filing on the end to make it fit.  Not a big deal.  Easy installation.  After only about 18 months in the sun it is already cracking.

If you find a source of the rubber gaskets for the handle, please let us know.  Mine are in poor shape, but I have caulked them to hopefully make them weather proof.  Before caulking I took off the bottom handle and water poured out.

George,

If your handle has the doorbell built in (as our '03 does), according to FOT the gasket for the doorbell end is no longer available.  It is longer in one dimension and unique to our door handles.  I think you can get the lower (triangular) one from FOT still, but you'll have to make your own upper one.

And don't forget to cut a very thin gap at the bottom of the gasket (learned that from Steve & Michelle) to let any trapped water run out.

Xtreme had no problem replacing my grab handle when the painting was done, the old one was not broken but showed signs of cracking/aging, so the new one has XTREME in stead of FORETRAVL, price was free so it fits fine.  "Aint nuttin free"

Thanks for the feedback.  I ordered from Foretravel a little earlier.  I didn't bother to ask about pricing, simply because I needed one.  I'll post the price when it comes in.

For what its worth, I also asked if they had extra gaskets for this particular model.  They said they had them for my particular model.  We shall see.
