Title: Incandescent bulbs in Lamps
Post by: Paul Smith on August 20, 2011, 02:36:57 am
We purchased six small 12v bulbs today from NAPA.  The old twist in kind.

We can get them to work in the Living Room lamps of our 1999 40ft U320

But cannot get them to work in the lamps next to the bed.  THAT problem is not a blown fuse.

They are ALL very difficult to twist into place.

Any ideas as to what's going on?

best, paul

I messed with the bedroom lights for quit a while.
Finally used a small bent awl and pulled on the spring tab in socket. They work fine now.

If they're too loose, pull up the center tab.  If they're too tight, file down the contacts a little at a time.

Paul, Look down into the bulb socket and I will bet that you will see TWO contacts, not just one.  These 12V bulbs are special.  They have two contacts and only one filament as one of them is the ground.  I can't recall the bulb number right now but the single contact  or the Automotive two contact type will not work, guess how I found that out.

I too had difficulty getting replacement bulbs twisted in place. The existing bulbs are 1076 bulbs with dual contacts and the tabs at equal height. BA15D/1142 bulbs will also work.
