We have the ether canister on our coach. We have never used it and never will. Someone told us not to use it unless we are talking to James Triana.
So I am wondering, what is the downside of removing the ether canister? It would certainly prevent an accidental use of it.

Hi George, The only use for the ether on your coach is for the emergency when it is very cold, and you have no AC for the water jacket heater or the Aqua Hot is not working as the AH has the switch where you can heat the engine. So from my view point, the ether on our model is like using a belt, suspenders, glue and screws to hold up your britches, or a little over kill ;D
By the way George, you have the ISM-450, the M-11 is an earlier version.

It's a real bummer getting older. Geez, I can't even remember what I had for breakfast two days ago. Hmmm. Did I even have breakfast?
However, last time I asked how to disable the ether start. This time I wondered if there was a downside to doing so. In either case, I'm pleased that you are reading my questions.
As a side note for those whose engines have an INTAKE MANIFOLD HEATER, never, repeat never use Ether. Ether on a red hot heater grid can cause an explosion!

On e(i)ther (pun intended) question I did not accurately answer your question. My canister is still in place and if I were to remove it I would make sure I had a face shield and gloves in case there was some spillage or spraying upon removal. After removal I would want to cap the actuator valve where the cannister was installed. I found that the supply line to the manifold is a plastic line and mine had a hole melted in it from being mounted too close to the turbo.
I know of no downside to removal unless you regularly are starting in very cold weather with no preheater and poor batteries. I also see no real downside to leaving it in other than the cannister rusting out and leaking explosive fumes into the well ventilated engine compartment.

I recently removed the ether cannister, emptied it completely by depressing the needle valve until there was no more flow of gas and liquid , then reinstalled it to cap off the actuator valve. That should make the system impotent.
