Want to replace my old microwave with the GE Profile. Will it fit with no mods to cabinets? Seems like it might be a tight fit by the way the door hinges! They are both 30" long.
Thanks, Richard Bark
Does yours snuggle up to the fridge cabinet to the left? If so, gotta make sure the door hinge is such that the door doesn't bind against the cabinet. Don't wait til it's installed, like I did, before you find out. It really limited our choices.
I second Steve's comment re the door opening. We replaced the microwave in our 225 and only found a few that had zero clearance. I took a straightedge with us to the stores, lined it up on the side and opened each door to see if it would contact it. Almost all moved it slightly and were disqualified. We ended up with a stainless steel GE which fit exactly right. Microwave only, not convection.

Yes, it fits right up to the fridg wall and the hinge is on the corner. Dont think it will fit unless I trim some of the cabinet off and I don't think I want to do that!
Thanks for the quick reply. Guess its back to the store for us!
We have the GE Advantium in our coach. You may want to take a look at the current models and see if they will work for you.
Kent, do you have the dimensions? Is it 30" wide? Thanks
I won't be able to check until tomorrow but I'm pretty sure it is 30". It was put in by previous owner so I can't help you on the installation process. Sorry!!
Thanks, Kent. Looks like if I want to use the Profile I'll have to trim of the cabinet off. Maybe 3/4 of an inch.
Richard, I'm curious... what is it about the GE Profile that you prefer - as opposed to replacing your Sharp with the current version? Is yours a microwave/convection oven, or a microwave only?
I ask because the Sharp microwave/convection oven that was original to our 2003 U295 is a model R-1870 (mfr date 4/02). The oven's fan developed a problem, and I found the current model (Sharp R-1875: R-1875 | Microwaves | Over Range Microwave | SHARP (http://www.sharpusa.com/ForHome/HomeAppliances/MicrowaveOvens/R1875.aspx)) to be between $500-600. However, Best Buy (online) has it on sale for $425 (1875 sharp - BestBuy (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp;jsessionid=730BEFB262A691706C36385CC20DA8F3.bbolsp-app02-07?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_dynSessConf=-2984527202711803567&id=pcat17071&type=page&st=1875+sharp&sc=Global&cp=1&nrp=15&sp=&qp=&list=n&iht=y&usc=All+Categories&ks=960)).
I had an online chat with a Sharp support person, and was advised that the R-1875 should have the same wall mounting plate and the ducting connections should also be the same - thus, an easy swap. We just received the replacement oven, and George will be installing it next week.
FYI, here is the oven (also adjacent to the refrigerator wall - and hinged on the left side); incidentally, the width is just a 16th of an inch under 30 inches:
Patricia, ours is a microwave/convection but found it to be too small for us.
The newer Sharp model has a much larger interior plus it looks like the door hinges about
2 inches from the edge. Am I right ? If so, that would be great! Plus the fact the mounting plates would be the same would make it easyer to install. Thanks for the tip on the
Sharp. We hadn't even considered them. Just did a quick look online and can't locate one
in the San Diego area. Will dig deeper. Thanks again,Richard B
Richard, George hasn't installed the new R-1875 yet, but below is a photo of our current R-1870 (mfr 8/02) which, appears to be all but identical. I opened the door to show how the hinging works - and it is about 1.5 inches from the left edge. Also note the vents in the left edge (not present on the right side). Will this work for your installation?
If this works, you can do what we did. Best Buy's online sale of $425 (http://tinyurl.com/3ukmf2r (http://tinyurl.com/3ukmf2r)) could not be sent to the store for pick-up. We did not want to deal with any possibility of damage in shipment (and the hassles of returning it). I printed out the Best Buy page and took it to Pacific Sales here in Tucson, and discovered that they would price match - especially since they are owned by Best Buy! :o It was a special order (no extra charge), and it took less than 2 weeks to locate one in one of their warehouses, and send it to Tucson. After they shipped it to the store, they opened and inspected it when we arrived to pick it up.
Good news! There is a Pacific Sales (Pacific Sales - Kitchen, Bath & Electronics (http://www.pacificsales.com/index.php)) in San Diego: 7069 Consolidated Way, Suite 100; San Diego, CA 92121; (858) 684-3660.
Good luck with your project!
Patricia, that style should work for us as the microwave is tight up against the wall where the fridge is, so we need that offset hinge. I didn't know that Pacific Sales was owned by Best Buy but I do know where they are because I just returned that GE Profile that I thought would fit. Thanks for all the information, thatnwas a BIG help!
It'll be a few weeks till I do the job now as I'm going to go back to work next week >:D
