This is a question for those of you with slide toppers that extend down into awnings. I have 2 on my coach. The strap hangs down 12-15 inches when the slide is extended but the awning part is not. when it is windy the strap can just keep beating against the slide and it can be mildly annoying. >:(
Any good solutions to stop the noise other than extending the awning?
Easy solution.... ignore it and you will get used to it with time! We did. It does seem like a rather primitive arrangement, but it does work.
I don't have a slide but I am assuming the awning strap on the slide awning works the same. When you roll up the awnings you hold the strap on an angle which causes more of the strap to roll up onto the awning roller. I can get mine rolled up with only an inch or so being exposed. I learned this tip on the better rving site. Here is the link. I cant see the video on my computer but I think it is still there. By the way Ernie that is in the video used to work for Foretravel.

George - I'm not wired to ignore - at least not yet - maybe after a few thousand miles it may be less of an issue but I don't ever think I could ignore it completely. I know, I know - I have issues...
Thanks Mark but this is when the slide is extended.
Mark,
A good way to stop strap flapping is to roll the extra length up with the awning. Hold it sideways as the awning retracts. You can leave just enough of the hoop exposed to grasp the next time you open the awning.

If you have the added "helper" straps on those topper awnings and those are mostly what thwap about, we tuck ours into the "hem pouch" of the regular awning strap when not pulling the awning down all the way. It helps.

While rolling it into the awning at an angle will work for the times the slide is out, it would not allow you to grasp the strap in those few occasions where you'd want to extend the awning when the slide is in, which you can do. The only solution I can think of, which is not convenient, is to get the ladder out and tie the strap to the metal strap hook on the side with ribbon or string.
Velcro
"Velcro" - Me too; white. Almost invisible.
First I'll try the helper pouch that will half the length of the strap - it will be a reach but worth it. Thanks Michelle.
If that does not work I kinda like a very small version of the velcro solution - but mine would have to be brown!
Mark - a trick I learned from txforetravel (aka T&B) this spring, you can lean out the window to reach the awning straps. No need to exit the coach except maybe for a BR slide (ours does have a window). 7 years and we're still learning!

I have a an really, really, really easy fix........ I just take out my hearing aids..... ;D ;D ;D ;D... sorry, just couldn't resist
Duh! I can do that! Thanks txforetravel & Michelle.
