Title: Humming noise
Post by: Greg and Viv on October 23, 2011, 11:42:01 am
I leaned a small folding table against the wall in the bedroom and a humming sound occurred. From the old school, I banged the wall and it stopped. I repeated the process a few times, same result... I wonder what is causing this?

Jim Check your thermostat in the bathroom, the fan under the clothes closet might be running and it could hum a little I guess.  I would snoop around, assuming the engine is not running nor the generator, that leaves an electric motor such as the above mentioned fan or a furnace fan in bedroom or a/c running, SNOOP around.

The converter under the bed would be my guess also.

Oh, My inverter stuff in under floor, in bay with slide tray.  I can sometimes hear the fan if nothing else on.  The only other critter would be the air compressor also in same bay.  Under the bed is no inverter, just two transfer switches, massive speakers etc, no inverter.

My apologies, I meant the transfer switches. The do have a tendency to vibrate or hum if the are not making good contact.

Kent, the ATS units only hum / vibrate / make noise when the dirt builds up between the two metal shoes, when the coil pulls the switch closed, these are not fully seated/touching, they sitting on the dirt and yup they do hum, vibratge, all you need to do normally is remove the cover and blast with clean dry air, or I like to put a dollar bill between the shoes and hold it closed and gull the bill out, this usually removes the dirt and is silent for a while.
Crazy aint it. ;D
