Our leak is occasional, and not reproducible, and appears to originate from the black (overflow?) vertical tube just under the back ceramic cap.
Suggestions?

Paul,
First guess is that you may have a sticking float in the vacuum breaker.
Pop the top off the vacuum breaker then unscrew the main body from the holding bracket. This will give you access to the white float and the "O"ring remove the float and clean then coat the bottom of float in silicone. Clean "O"ring and coat in silicone then re assemble.
While you have the vacuum breaker apart check the 1/4" tubing off the vacuum breaker that drains to the hopper it can crack down near the hopper and cause a seep.

Here is a couple of pics. as to what you are looking for.
Thanks! More later.

Looking at the white float from its bottom I see a circular disk that of off-center within the larger circular part of the float that has four legs.
At first I though this and/or the semi-circular top was adistinct piece of the float.
But now I'm thinking the float is one piece. Correct?
In years gone by I always refused to do plumbing because shortly after I change a washer in the kitchen tap I often found myself with a trench all the way to the street.
This cannot happen with a motor home (I hope), which iswhy I girded my loins and am attempting this plumbing job ;o)

Paul,
The float is one piece. The circular piece should be soft rubber that should be pretty much in the center if the float. This piece of rubber is a seat that seals off on the top of the brass "stand pipe" that it sets on.

The "soft rubber" disk is apparently the problem. It's no longer soft (:
I'm going to R Mechanic in Livermore, CA on Monday to have two belts replaced. They used to be an authorized Foretravel repair shop. Perhaps they have a new float.

Paul,
There is a black soft neoprene gasket that is hid in the black barrel that the white float seals off to when it rises to the top of its stroke.. Look up in through the threaded end and you can see the gasket. It could be a piece of trash has gotten in there. Clean this area up with soap and water and put a thin coat of silicone grease on the black neoprene gasket. This may revive it till you can get a repair kit.
