Gen started right up after 5 months in garage, runs fine but will not generate. Reset all breakers, fault lite will not go off. 1200 hrs Pancake gen. Any thoughts? Made appt in Leesburg Fl. Powertech has a service center. Hope its not something I missed. Thanks John
Did you also reset the on-generator breakers?
Might also check for power IN to the ATS from the generator as a failed ATS can give no power symptoms to the coach.
I am confused how it runs with the Fault light on, must be a new design. Does the fan n gen radiator run?
Took coach to powertech in Leesburg Fl, new brushes & clean armature. Works great except fault light won't go off. Any suggestions? Everything else checks out fine. Thanks John
unscrew the bulb or hit it with a hammer. That should put it out!!! What do you say Dave?
John
I guess I still confused, after having it to Power Tech, had it fixed almost, but wonder why they could not figure out the fault light issue, Duh ! !
Wonder which wiring diagram it uses ? Would hate to use a large hammer John, might make a small mess, but would put the light out.
However if my Fault light was on, I would check for:
Loss of speed signal
Low oil pressure
High engine temp
Over crank
Aux input
Can it be reset from engine control panel?
Do any of the panel indicators light or blink ?
Close it up and have a beer.
Another little item, the coolant level switch if low, will light the fault light and depending on how it is set, it could let engine keep running OR could be set to stop engine. Terminal 16 on the auto-start panel ES-52 in my manual, 01, 320.
Worth a snoop ^.^d
Have to admitt that I got mislead by my little generator, when starting cold, it started, runs rough, would clear up on about 20 seconds, SO I figured it must be the flow plugs either not getting the 12VDC or one or more glow plugs had gotten burned out. Boy was I wrong, after spending much time checking all the above and all is in fine shape, I realized I have a bad section of fuel line and it is either leaving air into the system on the return side or have a bad section on the suction hose. Either way I will get it, just had to mention this little issue, as might help others. ^.^d
Dave I have the same problem, However I just changed the engine controller and did not set the DIP switches to turn on the glow plugs long enough. Got to take it back apart and reset. I guess I'll wait until it's about 20 degrees and the gen won't start then I fix it, more fun like that.
Bruce, I sure recommend setting the glow plug timer now and save your starter motor, I know it is a beast to get into the controller, but while the weather is nice is a perfect time to do it, not when it is raining, 32f and 45 mph wind and you gotta have the generator right NOW.
Give it a thought ;D
With the temps in the teens at 8000', 30 seconds of glow starts the Kubota generator within ten seconds of cranking. Dave, do the glow plugs shut off on the later generators after a short time? Does the glow timer have a temperature sensor? A lot of diesels keep the glow plugs on for an additional 45 seconds or so after the engine has started to reduce air pollution.
Pierce, The Glow Plug timer is adjustable some what, but no to temp sensing, it is not an intelligent type. Standard Dyna Gen ES52-12-A-LS module, have three on my desk here right now, will install two today, converting two old units from old style controls to upgrade to the Dyna Gen, Have done many of these little babies.
