Post by: Karl Brenneman on November 09, 2011, 09:18:57 pm
Hi folks

I am in the process of doing my annual Aqua Hot maintenance. Changing out fuel filter and fuel nozzle. I also need to clean the combustion chamber. Dose any of you fine folks have a way to remove the combustion chamber. It won't move. I have tried to use visegrips to pull it out. It well not move. Can anyone give me some advise on how to pull it out. Thanks for you help. Karl

Karl,
Did you remove all the bolts?  Believe you have one "hidden" that you may have missed.  But sounds like you have done that service before, so not sure that is the problem.  Will check my book and see if I come up with anything else.

Hope to catch up with you  in Tucson.

Karl,

I use a long shaft flat blade screwdriver.  I place the blade at the joint between the combustion chamber and the case.  I then tap it with a small hammer or combination wrench.  As the blade eases the joint open, gently twist the screwdriver to break the friction fit between the combustion chamber and the case.  Once the friction fit is broken, it will slide straight out.

When re-installing the chamber, remember the seam goes up.  Also check the end of the seam for a crack.  A crack of up to 1 inch to perhaps 1/5 inches is usable.  If longer, replace the tube.

In addition to cleaning the combustion chamber, wire brush the U-channels that are spaced all around the cavity where the combustion chamber goes.  Brush the soot into the exhaust hole so you do not need to worry about vacuuming it up.

There are no bolts involved in holding the combustion chamber in place other the friction fit between the chamber and the case.  The combustion chamber is then held in place by the installation of the burner after you have replaced the nozzle.

Hopes this helps you.

Karl,

Rudy is correct as I misunderstood your question. Thought you had not gotten burner motor off yet.  Were you finally able to get the chamber removed?

Thanks guys for all your help! No I haven't tried the screwdriver yet. My DW said she is having trouble with the washing machine on the dry cycle. Some days its hard to keep up.

Is there an instruction manual available for the coach owner to do the annual maintenance on an AH in a 1999 U320?  Where can you get a copy, if there is such a manual?  Thanks.

Aqua-Hot has really improved their shop manuals. The directions on how to do the annual service are very good.  They have photos and directions and are better than what I wrote earlier.

For your 431/12 download this shop manual:  https://www.aquahotparts.com/eSource/ecom/eSource/staticpages/documents/600d03_service.pdf  Read pages 100-113 for annual service directions.

This is the shop manual for the 600-D03.  Your model is different in the following ways.
