I am not a happy camper at Camping World! It Gets worse... (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=14089.msg80664#msg80664)
So After talking with the service manager who seemed very concerned we agreed that they would replace the missing filler plug and steam clean the engine. He offered to send someone over to the storage warehouse to collect the coach or fix it there. I declined as 1. I don't trust them driving my coach & 2. I don't want them inconveniencing the warehouse people. Manager said he would drop off the plug at my place of business as he lives nearby. This he did and it was nothing like the needed plug. Showed him a picture on the internet. I said I would drop by Camping World on Friday last and pick up proper plug. They gave me a used plug that looked too small (Probably took it off someone else's unit) as the new one had not arrived. Got to coach and it was too small. Warehouse manger and I used a rubber chair leg protector that fit and a couple of turns of Gorrila tape. Arrive at CW. Leave coach. Get a call that it's all done a few hours later. Steam clean engine? Not. Just clean up the mess and fit new plug.
They said that if I bring it back in the spring they will give the coach a complimentary detail. If they think I am letting them near that paint job with a buffer they are dreaming.
Oh, yes, and when I checked under the bed the cover over the ATS was about to fall into the engine. Can't even do that right. One bright spot: I have found where the rear AM/FM speakers are!

Keith, sorry, but I am rolling on the floor.....I know your not, but you have got to be kidding us... :o
Just one misstep after another. This would be a remarkable story if it wasn't so... well, unremarkable. I have not been in a CW for ten years or more. I forgot what it was but something made me think I didn't want to go back. Of course, for ten years we tent camped with a boy scout troop so CW wouldn't really have much for the likes of us.
Glad they didn't do anything that really caused some expensive repairs. At least you got a new definition of "steam clean": The coach wasn't cleaned... but you got steamed. ;D

It's so sad to hear stories like this. Where the heck are we headed with service like this and lack of commitment by these people purporting to be RV techs?
Keith,
Your experience at CW does not surprise me one iota. I have been to that facility, but not for service. They have one of the most dishonest, disreputable and arrogant salesmen I have ever met. So giving lousy service is no surprise.
Please post your experience with them at RV Service Review (http://www.rvservicereviews.com) and help the rest of the RVing community.
I am glad you had no serious damage issues as a result of their negligence and incompetence.
That is why they will never touch my motorhomes ever.....
Unbelievable.
This should go nationwide. On every RV forum out there.
Don't think I'll be buying anything else from them, and I certainly wouldn't let them near my coach. Sorry for your grief Keith - been there, had that, in times past.
Steve
The sad thing is that the Service Manager really tried to resolve all this. I could understand if they just did not care but this was their best effort.
I have been in the automotive and heavy equipment service business at the retail, municipal fleet and consulting levels most of my life and if we ever screwed up you can bet we fixed it 150%. Now I am retired from all that I have a small retail business and when we make something for a customer we get it right first time. It's not just service but a matter of pride in our work, something sadly lacking in the current "race to the bottom" mentality.
Keith
I was going to say Peter Principle, but that does even come close to matching the problem.
You read this kind of stuff over at RV.Net (http://www.rv.net) all the time :o. And Camping World operates that forum :o :o. And the CEO frequents it :-X :-X :-X And nothing changes >:(??? I refuse to venture into their service area. Do buy from their store when I need something and they have the best deal. Would I buy a coach from them -
No way!!!I am truly surprised that they have not gone the way of the Nash Rambler.
I beleive they pray on the newbies who are all excited and clueless, have no idea of what they need or expect, just just throw the credit card at them and hit the road to happiness. Sooner or later the lamp comes on.
I buy most items from MOT, FOT or Xtreme and some mail order. Have little need for camping type stores. I may pay a little more, but I feel I have gotten good quality, not pot metal junk.
We all keep learning don't we. As soon as we know it all, it is over as in lights out ;D
