Title: Xantrex inverter/charger
Post by: Steve & Ginny Hill on November 30, 2011, 10:22:29 pm
I've been having trouble with my Xantrex shutting down due to an overtemp condition. I thought it was due to the heavy load of the two new 8D AGMs needing fully charged, but today I found that the little pancake fan built in to the side of the unit is not working. Has anyone ever replaced one of these? Is it difficult? I'm thinking of just "piggybacking" a comparable fan on the outside of the case, over the internal one, until I have the time/inclination to dissect the unit. I placed a simple floor fan in the cargo bay, blowing on the Xantrex, and it didn't overheat, so I think my scheme will work. Comments? Advice?

If you call Xantrex they will rehab the unit very cheaply if you return it to them.
I use a 1500 Watt on my Sportfisherman.

Steve,
The hardest thing is getting the get up and go to do the job. Seems like ours was a 120mm axial fan. Once you get the cover loose the fan is easy to see & get to.

It would probably be simpler to change the fan yourself, if you're comfortable doing it. I'd still call Xantrex and ask them to send a free replacement fan, assuming there is a warranty remaining (or they may do it for free anyway). Worth a shot.

Dear Steve

Yes, I have opened up the Prosine Its not hard. The hardest part is removing all the screws from heatsink/cover. Before you start make that you disconnect all AC-DC After you remove ALL the screws and cover you you see the three fans. They are SUNON KD1208PTB1-6    3 1/4 X 1 thick. Also I found removing it from MH it was much easier to work on.  What I did is blow them out with air and a few drops of 3in1 oil that was a year ago still working OK. All the best. Cheers Karl
