does anyone know how to test the speedo on a allison 545
I used these guys for years a couple of times a month average: North Hollywood Speedometer and Clock Company. Serving your gauge needs since (http://www.nhspeedometer.com/) They are one of the largest VDO shops.

im not sure which part is not working.anyone know of an easy way to check it
If Allison weighs 545, I don't think he should wear a Speedo in the first place.
There is a speed generator on the tranny case. Start there first.
Very simple, using a DVM, on Freq. read the frequency as you are driving.
Just connect the two meter leads to the two wires coming from the trany speed generator.
If you get a good reading, the sender is OK. these senders are a simple device, you most likely will see the frequency referring to your speed as the dial on dash is a freq meter. That is how I have trouble shot that area of tach readings and speed meter, (Not the wearable model)
if he weighs that much i dont think you would see the speedo lol
thanks dave ill try that next time i drive it
Mike,
Instrument Exchange 713.923.6104 in Houston is dealer and repair station for the speedometer and sending unit. Call Joe or Steve for an additional resource and parts if needed at a very good price. I have purchased several things from them. They know their products very well.
Funny name. Was at a car dealership in the 80's - every used car had a file with a service invoice for the service that was preformed to prep the car before it went on the lot. On eery invoice was the entry "fix clock". I thought it strange that every car would have a broken electric clock until i realized that it was code for "turn back the speedometer".
thankfully, those shenanigans are pretty much in the past (I think)
