Need replacements for the original 1993 cabinet door gas springs on my 95 U300. Originals were made by Springlift, labeled SL-10-20. Have researched the earlier postings on gas springs and found several alternatives @ $17.00 each. Looking for a less expensive source.
JON, try Encor Rv. Specialize in older Foretravels.
Jon,
I am not sure if these are the right ones for your U300, but Encore Motorhomes told me they would be the right gas springs for our 99' U270 cabinets. 6X15 2.0"stroke cabinet spring (http://encoremotorhomes.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=18&Itemid=136&vmcchk=1&Itemid=136)
Currently on sale for $8.75 vs the usual $12 apiece.
Don
Thanks to all ! Email sent to Encore for pricing / availability
Let us know what parts you end up with! I am still looking for cheaper alternatives...

Jon, I am confused. My 93, U300 has tambour interior cabinet doors with no springs. I think the newer Unichoaches use small gas springs on their interior cabinet doors like the ones Don mentioned but they are not tambour cabinet doors like mine. Are you possibly talking about the SpringLift gas springs for the basement Bay Doors. If so, I just bought some from Boat Parts, Boat Accessories, Boat Repair and Boat Supplies - Boaters Plus (http://www.boatersplus.com) for $15.85 each but the model number on mine was SL 3420-5. These were for the small doors behind the rear wheels and the small door behind the entry step. They are 20 psi springs with a movement range of 12" to 20". Surprisingly, the springs on the larger bay doors have the same model number, SL 3420, but have a much stronger spring to handle the weight of the larger doors. I have yet to figure out how springs with the same model number can have different strengths and what to order for the larger doors.
I also found a similar gas spring online for $13.00 but they were not name brand and I wasn't sure it would work for my needs.
These springs are replacements for the ones on the transverse compartment doors above the head of the bed. All other interior compartment doors are the tambour type.
I got a bunch of springs from Encore a couple of months ago, and they were perfect for our 99 U270. Highly recommended, and Encore is great to deal with.
Got 32 of em from Encorr RV great folks
Jon, my apology. I thought you had a 93, U300 like mine. I guess I need to clean my glasses.
Hi Kent - Mine is like yours - except it doesn't look as nice :-(
Build # 4774 - I think one of the last of the Unihomes.
Just ordered 4 from Encore @ $8.75 each plus shipping
Thanks to all - as usual

James can fix that for you if you would like...
I'd love for him to fix it too if only I could get someone else to pony up the 6K+ required ;D . BTW I also spoke to a friend of mine who sells gas springs. He said that cabinet door gas spring model is a very common application and was also available from McMaster Carr - pn# 9416K111 Page 1186 / 1187 of catalog.
